$425

Whether you’re looking to get into multi-pitch climbing or just want to do it better and go bigger, this course is for you.

Over two days we’ll dial in all the skills you’ll need to breeze through long routes with ease. This course is best suited for folks who are already comfortable leading single-pitch climbs on bolted or traditional routes, but trad climbing skills and multi-pitch experience are not required.

Day 1: Anchor and Transition Skills Workshop

We’ll spend the first day near the ground working on a variety of skills and workshopping anchors and transitions for both up and down. We’ll practice moving groups of two and three in and out of anchors, working on belay techniques and teaching pro tips and tricks for fast and clean rope and station management. We’ll also dive into safe and effective tactics for multipitch rappels and how to get off routes quickly and securely.

Day 2 - Taking It To the Rock

On our second day we’ll put all of those skills into motion and go climbing with you in the lead where you’ll receive personalized coaching to help you feel confident in going out on your own. While everyone knows Smith is a world-class single-pitch climbing destination, with a wide range of longer routes from two to seven pitches and from 5.4 to 5.14, it’s also the perfect place to learn to multipitch too.

Skills we’ll cover include:

  • Multi-pitch strategy and technique

  • Gear selection for multi-pitch trad and sport climbs

  • Anchors and equalization for multi-pitch climbing

  • Belay techniques for two and three person groups

  • Pre-rigged and multi-pitch rappels

  • Efficient transitions for climbing and rappelling

This course is limited to four people in order to give you the care and attention you need.

The first day will be instructed by long-time Smith local and climbing obsessive Chris Wright and the group will be joined by another AMGA Certified Rock Guide on our second day to climb in smaller groups. Chris has climbed all over the world, has been an AMGA Certified Rock Guide for more than ten years, and is an IFMGA Mountain Guide and instructor for the American Mountain Guides Association. All of that to say you’ll be receiving the highest quality instruction on the most up-to-date equipment and techniques. Come join me in our beautiful backyard and let’s climb!
